Baby Stroller Buying Guide

One of the most important buying decisions new parents make is deciding what baby stroller to purchase. First and foremost, parents want a stroller that will keep their baby comfortable and safe, but is also affordable and easy to use. Shopping for a stroller can be overwhelming because there are so many options available, but making a few decisions ahead of time can make choosing one much easier.

First, decide how long you will use the stroller. If you want to buy a stroller that will last for several years, consider a travel system, which can be used when your baby is in an infant carrier and also when she is older and sitting up.

The stroller should fit easily in your car or van. You will be lifting the stroller in and out frequently, so a light stroller that is small enough to get in and out of your vehicle is important, especially if you drive often.

The stroller should collapse easily. You’ll not only have to collapse the stroller to get it in your vehicle, but also in crowded restaurants, subways and shopping malls. Some strollers can be collapsed with only one hand, which comes in handy when you’re holding your baby in one arm and struggling with the stroller with the other.

If you like to exercise, consider purchasing a jogging stroller. Some small jogging strollers can easily double as a primary stroller while other jogging strollers are meant solely for exercise. The most important considerations are whether the front wheel swivels and if it can be locked into place. When jogging, the wheel should be locked for safety reasons, but for everyday use the front wheel should swivel.

Look at the accessories. While safety is your first priority, you’ll also appreciate the amenities that many strollers offer. For instance, you’ll enjoy having cup holders for both you and the baby, especially after the baby gets big enough to hold her own cup or bottle. A sturdy and easily accessible place to store the diaper bag is a huge bonus.

Strollers come in all colors, shapes, sizes and prices. There are so many options available that it can be hard to make a decision. First, decide on a budget and commit to purchasing a safe stroller. After that, just have fun exploring the countless stroller options that are available.

Is it wise to bring your own baby stroller on a cruise?

Q: Should we bring our own baby stroller or does the cruise ship provide baby strollers for free/rental.

A: It may be trouble, but bringing your own stroller helps cut down on germ introduction from previous users of "public" strollers. Also, your own stroller is familiar to you and your child, and all the ways your stroller feels to your child will be there, even the smell of your stroller (not that...
